Open Source Overview
2 min
The Open Source version of Essential is based on a forked version of Protege from Stanford University that the Essential Project maintains.
Open source has the same meta model, almost all the same views, a similar import utility and the same forms based data capture as Cloud/Docker (although the data capture is a java-based font-end rather than web).
You can migrate open source from/to Cloud/Docker in a few minutes
The main differences are that the REST APIs and the Essential Editors, which rely on the APIs, are in Cloud/Docker, the interface is a more elegant in Cloud/Docker, a few of the views make use of the APIs in Cloud Docker to do repository updates as the user interacts. There is a simple API in Open Source
