There are a number of features in the Essential Enterprise Architecture tool that make life easier – but we’re not convinced we’ve publicised them well enough!
We’re calling them Essential’s Hidden Gems, read on to see if you are utilising them:
Feedback in Viewer
While looking at a view, feedback can be sent to the owner of the item you are looking at
The envelope icon allows users to provide feedback on a view to a specific user. When clicked the user can add their name, the type of feedback and add text to send an email with the link to the specific view they are looking at to a pre-defined user. This could either be a generic content owner or a specific user for the element they are looking at.

Roles for Classes
You don’t need to have long lists in selection boxes for editors
The Editors allow users to easily add and maintain data. Once of the fields that can be updated is ‘Stakeholders’ – a role, for example Application Owner, Business Owner, Budget Holder and so on, and the person or organisation that hols that role.
To avoid having to select from a long list of roles, many of which won’t be relevant, Essential allows you to define “roles for classes” so, for example, Application Owner won’t appear as an option if you are adding a stakeholder to your data subjects.

Personalise the Application Dashboard
It’s easy to change the chart types, or hide some away
The Application Dashboard slices and dices your application estate across different criteria and allows exports of the charts to PowerPoint. You can set the type of chart for the display, so can pick if you want bar, pie, radar or a mix.

Turn your Proposals into Strategic Plans
The Proposal Editor lets you capture ideas for improving your architecture from anyone across your organisation. These can then be managed through to further assessments, implementation or rejection. If they reach Implementation you can opt to automatically turn them from a proposal into a strategic plan, which is then reflected in your enterprise architecture.
To enable this feature, make sure it is switched on in the Editor Builder.

Drag and Drop Modelling
An easy, visual way to model by dragging and dropping applications onto business capabilities or business processes, and onto a disposition status.
We didn’t think this was hidden but a number of users don’t seem to know it’s there!
