We’ve posted a couple of updates looking back at 2024, from both an EA Tool and an EAS company perspective. We thought we’d give an update looking forward on our plans for 2025.
We are laser-focused on closing any remaining gaps between Essential and the other EA Tools in the Marketplace. Our aim is to make Essential the Go To EA Tool for Enterprise Architects that want a tool built by architects for architects to support them in their role, whilst maintaining our low-cost business model that allows us to do so at a fraction of the cost of those competitors.
Key to closing those gaps are the following, which we are actively working on now:
PowerBI
We’ll be simplifying integration with PowerBI by releasing a dedicated adapter. This will make it easy to utilise the Essential data for the quantitative slicing and dicing that PowerBI excels at, allowing users to create their own charts and reports. Essential will continue to provide the qualitative analysis that is excels at.
Easier View Building
Feedback from our clients is that everyone loves our views and dashboards, from the architecture team to the business users to the senior leadership roles. However, client specific views require some basic development skills which not every team has. We have partially addressed this with the DQT (Design Query Tool), but our new view builder will make it simple for users to create their own custom views, really opening up the platform. It will be based on the editor builder, and provide components that can be crafted into views that are specific to the organisation’s needs.
Easier Integration
We’re reengineering our approach to integration to make it a more visual experience. This will make integration to other tools easier for those organisations that don’t have API expertise readily available.
And More
Aside from closing the gaps we will continue to focus on areas that we feel make Essential stand out from the competition:
More views
When we showcase our views, we always get extremely good feedback on their usability and relevance for business users as well the EA Team. This will continue to be a focus for us in 2025, and you’ll see more enterprise views that will help you deliver your enterprise architecture better, either through open source or through our commercial platforms.
Ease of Use and Onboarding
A focus this year has been on making onboarding easier for new clients and on making it easier for existing clients to expand their use of Essential as they mature. We will maintain this focus in 2025.
