Assigning values?

Does the meta-model allow the ability to assign values to roles, applications, technology, etc?

The purpose is to then look at the cost of services, and use as-is and to-be to understand the cost savings?

Hi Yasmin,

Yes, there is a powerful meta model for defining and capturing the cost values of anything in the model.

We found that capturing cost values directly for any particular element in the model (e.g. Business Process or Application Provider) could easily be misleading.

Therefore, we have provided a flexible approach for assigning cost at any level of detail. E.g. at the individual software product instance or for an enterprise license.

In the Cost Management part of the Essential Meta Model, you can create instances of the Cost class. You can capture the Cost Code against this and then map it directly to the set of elements to which this Cost relates. These can be any combination of Business, Information, Application, Technology or any things from the EA Support Layer (which includes Projects, Plans, etc.). You can also define the sub-components that make up this cost, which could be annual, monthly, quarterly or ad-hoc costs.

We also have the Contract class which enables us to define any kind of agreement (to external suppliers or internal service providers) and map Costs to these. The Contracts can be for any element, e.g. an Application, a Process, Technology Products or whatever).
