In Essential, we may define target metrics for business objectives and then display them in the viewer through the "business performance model". However, It seems that there is no way to relate these performance metrics to the information/Application/Technology layers.

My objective here would be to relate some business objectives to key performance indicators and then to the information/application/techno entities required to calculate these kpis.

Any thoughts ?

Hi J-M.

That out-of-the-box view shows performance and metrics against Business Objectives, but we can define Application Architecture Objectives and Technology Architecture Objectives and associate KPIs with those.

It is possible in the meta model to relate Objectives to each other across the layers, so we can show how certain Application Objectives are supporting specific Business Objectives - so we know some of the "why?" in the architecture.

The OOTB Business Performance Model View could then be used as a template for creating similar views for the Application and Technology layers.

We've been using XSL functions to encapsulate (nice and concisely) the calculations for derived values, which can then be used in Views and you could take a similar approach in a custom view that "rolls up" KPIs from a number of metrics across the layers - maybe using the "supporting objective" relationships between Business Objectives and the Application and Technology elements to navigate the model.

By the way, we're working on some things at the moment looking at KPIs and tracking them against actual measures over time - and it is possible that features like this will be added to future versions of the meta model.
