Application Reference Model Help

Hi, I'm a total newbie to this, have been playing with the tool for about 2 days.
I have my application Providers loaded, business and app capabilities loaded from existing spreadsheets, I dont have any information, data or technology assets to load as initally I'm want to view my application portfolio against capabilities for a rationalisation project.
I would like to link Capabilities to my Applications and populate the application Reference Model in the Viewer. unfortunately I'm not sure where to turn to next as in the viewer there are 5 default categories that have nothing to do with my data and I dont know where they come from.
any guidance would be much appreciated
