I did get a reply with a possible workaround on the Protege-Discussion Mailing list:

Re: Protégé 3.4.8 Performance issues
Hi Charu,
do you use the Change and Annotation Ontology (ChAO)? We currently see a big performance hit while opening an Ontology with attached ChAO. See http://www.enterprise-architecture.org/ ... t=10#p3311

Re: EA Project taking long time to open
We recently started to use the Change and Annotation Ontology (ChAO) with our Protege multi-user installation. It worked fine for a while but now we see serious performance degradation. The ChAO is persisted in an Oracle database and the table current contains about 195.000 entries after using it fo...

Re: The annotation_essential_am_repository.pprj file.
Hello Jonathan, my experience is that even with the database backend the ChAO performance degrades quickly. We will definately see to disable change tracking when doing mass updates to see if this helps with ChAO performance. Otherwise the only option is to archive and clear the ChAO in short interv...

Re: The annotation_essential_am_repository.pprj file.
What is the best practices regarding change tracking for an Essential project? The integrated ChAO does provide a fine grained change log, but even with a database backend (Oracle) the performance degrades over time if the ChAO is not archived regularly. Furthermore we would like to see information ...

Re: Several "Versions" of the architecture model
Hi Kevin,
can you share more information about your Sharepoint synchronisation? Do you access the relational tables with Sharepoint? Is the synchronisatsion two-way, can you edit the information in Sharepoint and send it back to Essential?
Best regards,
Ulf

Re: Import of Application List (as XLS oder CSV)
Congratulations to the release of version 3 of the Essential platform! Any news on the "Excel Data Capture Template" mentioned by Sarah. I saw that it is not part of the 3.0 release. Will it be part of a 3.1 release? We already developed custom scripts to load data from Excel. This was use...

Re: PyDev for Script Tab
We did check the Protégé community and Google but did not come up with any existing solutions. We will continue with our development and hopefully not be dependend on print statements for debugging of JPhyton scripts any more :-). The Essential Update Tab will still be useful to actually execute scr...

PyDev for Script Tab
Hello, since developing import-, export- and migration-scripts using Jython in the Script Tab is not really comfortable we looked into the possibility of using a real IDE for this purpose. We found a way to use "PyDev" (Python IDE for Eclipse) for script development including a real debugg...

Rowspan error in "core_bus_cap_app_analysis_allCaps.xls"
The report business/core_bus_cap_app_analysis_allCaps.xsl does not correctly calculate the rowspan for table cells in the "Business Capability" column. Each cell in the "Business Capability" column has a rowspan attribute, which matches the total number of supporting Application ...

Re: Application Providers and Technical Components
It seems overly complicated to create a Technology Composite, which contains only a single Technology Component. Why not directly allow the use of Technology Components?

Jonathan,
can you please elaborate on the "really nice extension to the meta model to better manage how Information and Data is managed (created, moved etc.) around the organisation."?
Thank you,
Ulf

Re: Process hierarchy without defining flows
Thank you for your answer. You are correct that we are using decomposition and aggregation to model our processes on different levels of detail. Each level is a decomposition/aggregation of a higher/lower level. I changed my integration script to create the required Business_Process_Flow and Busines...

Process hierarchy without defining flows
Hello, is there a way to express a process hierarchy without using defining process flows? A "Physical Process" has a "contained physical sub processes" slot, which can be used to express such a hierachy. Why does a slot like this does not exist on the logical "Business Proc...

Complete Meta-Model as UML?
Is there a way to get/export an UML diagram of the complete Meta-Model? I would like to provide a UML diagram only containing the classes relevant to our purposes (a subset of the complete Meta-Model). Do I have to model it myself (e.g. using Visio)?
