Hi, we are dealing with a consortium of public bodies and we would like to use essentialproject.
Is it possible to map different public bodies ? Can we have a group of different "single enterprise" ?
Secondly, these public bodies cooperates in particular for exchanging data and implement cross processes ( ie, between different local public administration). Is it possible for example describe in Essential project interaction such as RMI/WebServices calls or massive data flow between different "enterprises" ( with different actor, organization, technologies ) ?

Lastly is it possible to have a graphical view of the dependency between applications of the same public body and between applications of different bodies ?
Thanks

Hi Fabrizio

You can certainly model things like consortiums or federated enterprises.
It's really down to how you want to model it as to which approach you take. We have worked with government agencies where there is a federated repository (multiple Essential installations, working separately but together) but this can be complex to manage at the across-federation level (as it would be with any such repository configuration)

However, I think from what you are describing, the idea is to create a single model that describes how the consortium works. This is straightforward and we use the Group Actor class to model teams, divisions, companies, sub-units etc. at any level of granularity. So, we can create a Group Actor for the consortium and then each of the public bodies as Group Actors that are contained in the consortium and so on down each organisation to the required level of granularity / detail.

We can model the information that is exchanged between the organisations as they perform their processes. In more detail, we can capture (at coarse grain or fine grained level of detail) the applications that are used by each organisation as they interact and the information that is exchanged between the applications and go into the details of the specific mechanisms used, e.g. messaging, Web Services, RMI, manual, whatever we need.

Some of the out of the box Views provide graphical perspectives on the dependencies between the applications and the information that is exchanged between them.

I am confident that you can meet all of your requirements with Essential. As with any such toolkit, there are options for how to model it!

Let us know if you need more detailed help or would like to discuss any particular modelling scenarios
